Food Sensations® is a practical nutrition education and food skills program based on the WA Department of Health FOODcents® nutrition and budgeting program, which has been adapted for Foodbank WA's school and community networks.

Regional Food Sensations® in Schools

All registered School Breakfast Program schools, state-wide, are now eligible to receive FREE Food Sensations® school sessions.

The format of the program incorporates:

  • Highly interactive 60-90 minute nutrition and hands-on cooking sessions.

  • School student, teacher and parent sessions.

  • Educator training days which provide community members and local staff with the capacity to deliver components with their own client groups.

  • Foodbank WA staff travel the state delivering sessions facilitated by qualified and experienced staff and include ingredients and equipment required.

  • Follow up sessions are available in some regions, delivered by Foodbank partner organisations.

What the sessions include:

  • Information to improve knowledge and understanding of nutritious foods

  • The skills to make informed food choices when purchasing food (high school sessions)

  • Food preparation and cooking skills via hands-on cooking sessions

  • Basic nutrition principles taught using practical and fun activities

  • The provision of take-home nutrition and cooking resources which can be used by a variety of groups in the WA community.

What your school needs to host Food Sensations® sessions:

  • A basic room such as a classroom, wet area, canteen, art room or home economics room

  • Access to at least four power sources (i.e. two double power points)

  • Access to running water (i.e. sink)
