Food Sensations® is a practical nutrition education and food skills program based on the WA Department of Health FOODcents® nutrition and budgeting program, which has been adapted for Foodbank WA's school and community networks.
Regional Food Sensations® in Schools
All registered School Breakfast Program schools, state-wide, are now eligible to receive FREE Food Sensations® school sessions.
The format of the program incorporates:

Highly interactive 60-90 minute nutrition and hands-on cooking sessions.

School student, teacher and parent sessions.

Educator training days which provide community members and local staff with the capacity to deliver components with their own client groups.

Foodbank WA staff travel the state delivering sessions facilitated by qualified and experienced staff and include ingredients and equipment required.

Follow up sessions are available in some regions, delivered by Foodbank partner organisations.
What the sessions include:

Information to improve knowledge and understanding of nutritious foods
-
The skills to make informed food choices when purchasing food (high school sessions)
-
Food preparation and cooking skills via hands-on cooking sessions
-
Basic nutrition principles taught using practical and fun activities
-
The provision of take-home nutrition and cooking resources which can be used by a variety of groups in the WA community.
What your school needs to host Food Sensations® sessions:

A basic room such as a classroom, wet area, canteen, art room or home economics room
-
Access to at least four power sources (i.e. two double power points)
-
Access to running water (i.e. sink)
-
Access to refrigeration nearby to the room.
